Students Visited the Astronomical Observatory in Białków.

Yesterday, our school’s students had the opportunity to take part in an extraordinary astronomy lesson at the Astronomical Observatory of the University of Wrocław in Białków. The visit not only allowed them to see professional research equipment but also helped them better understand phenomena occurring both in space and around us.

During the activities, the students explored the mysteries of diffraction and light dispersion, and learned how color mixing affects what we see. Using a prism, they observed the formation of a rainbow, which sparked great interest. A special highlight of the visit were the models of Mars and the Moon, which allowed the young explorers to imagine themselves on the surface of these fascinating celestial bodies.

Equally exciting was the presentation on solar prominences – massive eruptions of matter visible from Earth. During a “walk across the sky,” the students learned about constellations and zodiac signs, as well as how to use the Big Dipper to find north. Thanks to this, they gained a practical skill of orientation, useful not only for stargazing.

The trip to Białków turned out to be a unique scientific adventure that will remain in the participants’ memory for a long time. It was an opportunity to combine classroom theory with practice and to experience how fascinating astronomy can be.

We would like to thank all the staff of the observatory for their warm welcome, the wealth of astronomical knowledge they shared, and their valuable advice on how to make the most of our school telescope.
